Toronto Yoga Co.

Outdoor & Virtual yoga, barre & pilates

(outdoor) layers on layers – but you’ll warm up, your own mat , water bottle, mask

(virtual) any digi device & your bod

Toronto Yoga Co. has had a very busy few months, being one of the leaders in the Toronto fitness scene for getting creative with how to 1) stay open and 2) offer a recluse for their community in these bonkers times. Located in Toronto’s East York, Toronto Yoga Co. has successfully side swiped the local October mandated closure by leaning into their innovative outdoor “yoga deck”, or “backyard barre” also affectionately known. They’re pushing past the single digit temperatures and preparing to run outdoor classes into November as long as people want them and before the snow flies.

I checked out this beautiful and incredibly tranquil space last weekend in a crisp 8 degree afternoon – but it was worth every layer and I highly highly recommend you pay them a visit before it’s too late.

Located on 1768 Danforth Ave, Toronto Yoga Co. first opened in November 2018. It was a community favourite from the start with a beautifully bright, crisp and minimalist feel and (pre-covid) was your idyllic bustling local studio that had to keep expanding to match the demand (they expanded to their second floor practice room in October 2019).

They quickly adapted to Covid-19 by taking their alleyway parking stalls complete with mud, gravel, and plenty of non-inspiring alley vibes, and built from scratch the current – and stunning – yoga deck. They’ve installed barres, the walls are high, the roof is open to the clouds and the birds, and there’s enough space for 10 people to have a properly social distanced class. Having opened at the end of July 2020, the yoga deck that’s accessible from the back laneway, has served as a literal sanctuary for many locals and fellow Torontoians flocking to a space that feels like the closest thing to a studio experience pre-2020.

But maybe even better. I’m telling you, there’s just nothing better than watching birds fly over head during savasana.

The Classes

Toronto Yoga Co. offers classes for all levels in many styles of yoga, and some barre and pilates on both their virtual platform and outdoor classes. With a schedule that packs 4-6 classes a day, even NOW, you’ll be sure to find a class that works for your schedule. The virtual classes are available for drop-in or membership (more on pricing below) and they can be live class on Zoom, or if you’re a member, you’ll have access to an on-demand video library of previous classes and pre-recorded ones.

Toronto Yoga Co is particularly known for their Express Vinyasa Flow & Express Core Flow classes (45 minutes) and their barre classes draw a VERY committed crowd. It’s possible to attribute the deck staying open into November, purely because of their committed barre stars.

Virtual memberships are available and are $40 a month for UNLIMITED Zoom classes – PLUS you get access to over 50 professionally pre-recorded classes, and access to a library of all our saved live zoom classes.
