Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre, YEG | 4.5

Shala Ashtanga Yoga Centre is the first review we've ever done of a traditional Ashtanga yoga studio and a Mysore style class at that (where students practice independently at their own pace). And know this - as soon as we knew we were doing a Mysore style we were like...uhhhhhh. Even though I've been practising for over 15 years and Sydney and I go to a squillion yoga classes, we were still very intimidated. BUT - turns out there's no need to fret. We'll explain why going to a Mysore class as a beginner to Ashtanga might actually be the greatest thing ever and why this hidden sanctuary in the middle of downtown Edmonton is one of the greatest places to learn.

Legs. Core. Arms. Arms. Core. Legs. That's the death mantra we experienced in Edmonton's only rowing studio that sufficiently kicked our ass and converted us into rowing fanatics. And then, cuz we loved it so much and heard they added a class called Intensity, we had to go back and get our ass handed to us again but in the form of this strength training class. These guys don't mess around with a tough workout and the studios beautiful design aesthetic makes it all hurt a little bit less.

Mile Zero, YEG | 3.5

This charming studio in the heart of Edmonton's Little Italy is full of chaotic character. We tried our hands at a contact dance class, which was a definite first and though it didn’t leave us gasping for breath, it absolutely fulfilled its purpose in connecting mind to body and forcing us to take time to understand how they work in partnership and to the world around us. Also, there was a HUGE test in trusting others - strangers nonetheless - which was a lil' life reminder unto itself.

Xtend Barre, YEG | 4.5

Where other barre programs focus on the small movements, Xtend Barre’s diverse programs focus on movement of the whole body, delivering cardio, strength, endurance, and flexibility. Translation - it will kick your ass in the subtle, graceful way that ballet does. With a full class schedule ranging from classic Barre classes to Babies on Board, this studio makes finding a class for any level of difficulty an easy task. The range of instructors are key to Xtend Barre's success and they're who create the positive environment to move, stretch, and shake up your fitness routine. We big fans. 

YEG Cycle, YEG | 4.5

This class forced us to dig deep and push through doubt and fatigue and we definitely appreciated the dark nightclub vibes so we could hide the serious struggle that was our lives.
