Pure Yoga first caught our eye with their very cool, very inclusive company ethos. They want to share their passion for yoga with every body, shape, size, age, and status; employed, or between jobs, student, or retiree, single or divorcee, mother, father, grandparent – you get the idea. LOVE that. The space itself is premium and vibrant, and the hot yoga classes were challenging and actually FUN - which is not usually the first adjective I'd use to describe a yoga class.
Pop Physique hails from the capital city of beautiful bodies (LA) and you can tell they know what they're doing. This luxe, femme fatal, flawlessly marketed barre studio, expanded across the States quickly after first opening in LA, and finally up to Canada where they opened in Toronto's midtown last year. We're reviewing two classes, Pop Yoga and their signature Pop Physique, which is a ballet-barre based workout heavily focused on 'tucking', 'pulsing' and 'scooping' to hone in on very precise muscles. This class is less aerobic than some other Barre classes we've taken like as Barre3 or Barre Body Studio, but if you follow instructions, keep your form in check and challenge yourself, you'll feel the burn the next day in teeny tiny muscles you didn't even know you have.
Undrcard has freaking nailed it. This studio is doing what people want out of boutique fitness studios now. Crazy hard classes set in an aesthetically pleasing, large, open space, that provide all amenities like great change rooms, lockers, and good quality products for a decent price, that lack a bougie attitude, and have a place for us to chill before or after class equipped with wifi, strong coffee and dairy free/gluten free/all natural delicious snacks. NBD. So, like, they're doing all of this so 5 full pineapples all DAY.
The Sweat Lab (or TSL) is an absolutely awesome hub for lean, mean muscle hotties. Reasonably priced, with a diverse schedule full of killer classes, and a spacious ski-lodge feel, this studio is a must visit for the Calgary fitness fam.
We've been to Barre Body Studio twice now to try different classes, two locations, and get our butts whipped into shape, literally. These barre classes are low-impact, aerobic and will get your heart rate up by incorporating elements of ballet, free weights and resistance-based equipment. The result is a more toned, leaner physique with a lifted and absolutely fantastic posterier.
The Ballet Boot Camp class incorporates ballet, yoga and Pilates based movements for a continuous fat burning workout that will leave you feeling tall, toned and as graceful as Misty Copeland (for half a second, because reality.)
This class forced us to dig deep and push through doubt and fatigue and we definitely appreciated the dark nightclub vibes so we could hide the serious struggle that was our lives.
The 45-minute class was a challenging, sweaty, and motivating feel-good ride that wasn't the least bit intimidating. We get why it has a cult following, I think we might be in the fan-club now.
